Texas has contemporary art because of Betty Blake. She operated the state’s first contemporary art gallery-The Betty McLean Gallery. It was next to a Neiman Marcus on Preston Road. Donald Vogel, founder of Valley House Gallery, was the director. We met with Betty Blake at her condominium where she gave us the grand tour.
Please consider supporting us in our efforts to document the art scene in Dallas from the 1960s-1980s with a donation. The expected result is both a book and a video documentary, as well as web-only features.
